It's been a while.

Hello : )

I think the last time I clicked the Sign In button was months ago. Or maybe not too long ago but it was a failed attempt to update. Since my last post I just went into hibernation from the so called online world. Popping up every once in a blue moon to shed some existence however tiny it may be.

Well a lot has certainly happened in the gap of unwritten (or unblogged?) days. Yes.

But

right here, right now, I am a happy camper ♥

For starters, I've graduated :D so that means no more posts about assignments and what not. I have stepped foot into the working life as of now. But I shall not delve into that here... :)

Tiny news on the side, few weeks ago I was out with my sis and her guy and we walked into a computer shop as I was looking for a cable thingy... As we were leaving, one familiar design of hearts and colors caught my eye and I could not believe it cause I had created that little piece of art. It was made into an iphone skin, altho the colors came out a little over saturated. I actually submitted that piece for a competition (one of the few I sent it). It didn't win but I guess I must've missed it somewhere in the T&A about the royalty free policy of submitted designs.

My name was credited so I guess that was enough, though they got the title of the piece wrong

Well anyway it felt really random but it did make my day :D

Just a little something to share...

I stumbled upon this little spiral bound today while looking for a lighter (no, I don't smoke. Mind you, it was for lighting an incense!). Anyway I think it's been more than a year since I skimmed through the pages of this little book. It holds a lot of memories of people I once got to know from a 3 month national service camp... :) These were a couple of the quote filled pages I made before I knew of my 3 month voyage that would change my life forever.

What are you running from? ...Or to?

Hello. I am still alive. My blog is not so.

I've been running. Running from myself. To myself. And for myself. I'm tired. So much fills this little head of mine. There's so much and yet nothing to say. I've been looking hard at the person in the mirror. Some days I haven't the courage to face her. Some dreams die. And so new ones are born... But right now it is quite dark. Fumbling my way through unfamiliar territory requires me to abandon all familiar ways of navigating and handling. But letting go isn't always easy. And yet there is pain in growth too sometimes. I am humbled. I am re-learning to trust in my steps. Finding the light at the end of the tunnel. Let me do this a step at a time.

I am recovering. Slowly but surely. Don't rush me.

If you're wondering what recovery I'm talking about, it's spiritually, mentally, emotionally. I'm sure we all go through this from time to time in our lives. Right now, this is where I am.

Is there anything in your life that needs healing right now?

Growth That Can't Be Seen Is Still Growth.

A shot of yesterday morning's clear blue sky. The exact opposite of what I felt when I woke up this morning. For the first time since I began the first day of the year, I rebelled against myself and woke up much later than usual. I tossed and turned in bed the night before carrying with me the weight of the world to sleep. I was overwhelmed merely by the thought of the many tasks I need to start tackling in the coming weeks. I woke up suddenly at 9am when I thought I heard someone call my name from outside. At that moment I knew I was alone at home. So I was on guard at a millisecond upon disconnecting from dreamland. I peered out the window. No one. Not a soul. I sat up in bed replaying the memory of sound I thought I had heard. I dismissed it as part of my dream. Hmm.

I'm feeling much better now after starting the day with a pleasant breakfast and a good book to read. Sometimes you do lose sight of what's important. Now and then I'd take a step back and remind myself that I have come a long way. It's so easy to forget that once upon a time you would've given everything to be where you stand today. Instead of being grateful we often torment ourselves and think about the next thing we don't yet have. It'll just be like passing life by if we don't stop every now and then to appreciate how much we've grown.

Some growths are not immediately visible to our eyes. Although I'm the kind of person who "knows" that Rome wasn't built in a day, there are times when not seeing immediate results can be really discouraging. This is perhaps something I need to remind myself every day, that instead of worrying about the end results I should just focus on what I can put into each day. Every day. A step at a time.

The Courage To Be Imperfect.

Here are some snaps of the past week. Although I'd have to say this week itself is coming to an end. I've been procrastinating on this update. So much has been going on. Internally and outwardly.

It's been raining this past 5 days. The air is cold and a little more salty. The sound of raindrops fall like sacred prayers. Senses are a little more heightened. Little things that go unnoticed are suddenly in the foreground. It's like bullet time. Now and then it's like slipping into the invisible world that's every bit as significant as the one we can touch and see.

Most evenings I'd go for a walk with either sibling to catch the sunset. Those moments feel so fragile. At every second colors are changing, clouds are becoming, and the light cast on the ocean canvas is constantly in motion. The sun sinks at a rapid pace that you can only catch when you blink your eyes. It leaves in a grand exit. And as if the universe could tell exactly what it is you're feeling, the sky is filled with colors that paint that feeling you could never quite put into words.

I remembered a time when I used to refer to my cousins and sibs as the happy-little-people. During badminton weekends they used to be running around outside playing their own games while the adults had their badminton matches in the hall. We (yes, I would join them sometimes...as the leader!) would play "What Is The Time Mr. Wolf?" and "Mama Ayam"... That was years ago. Today they're all indoors sparing with the adults and looking less and less like the little bunch who used to look up to me (literally.lol)

Sigh. Sometimes I just can't help it.

When the sun sets the bats fly aimlessly about as if dusk were a magical transition into the night.

Photos from an outing with the sibs and cousins few days ago :)

Yesterday my baby sis and I attempted to fly a 15minute-homemade kite. It never made it to the sky :( But it was hilarious. I felt like a kid again. Lil' bro was there to support us with more laughter. Tee-hee. The kite fell into the sea and got soaked. Aahh but all the laughing made up for the failed attempt! We're gonna try again tomorrow. Maybe. Whee :)

p/s: There's gonna be a lot of photo log posts for a while. Still a bit caught up with some errands. I'll manage a few art posts as soon as I can!

Christmas & Shooting Stars.

I hope you dears had a lovely Christmas!

I finally get to take a break today from all the busy-buzzy-ness of the past week. But this final week of 2009 seems to be quite packed as well. Huhu. Well today I finally have the time to post an update. Hee.

Christmas was a small gathering at my grandparent's this year. Something we haven't done in a looong time. It was nonetheless merry even though there wasn't the annual planned activities. We had guitars and aspiring singers (ahem!) singing oldies and carols. A scrumptious meal. And loads of whimsical laughter. The cousins and I even managed an hour of stargazing. We saw two shooting stars! Hee.

On Christmas morning we (a family troop of eleven) had a small hike to Aki and Nina's fruit orchard to hunt for some tarap, durian, and rambutans! Fresh fresh mountain air~ :)

Later that late afternoon we did some cycling rounds. It was sooo fun! I haven't cycled in ages...! We left that night then left again at 5am the next morning for another 2 hour ride to a wedding... Well that's all for now. Will continue again in the next post! In the meantime here are just a few snaps taken at the grandparents :)

Making Pancakes Are Therapeutic.

Well for me at least :)

Few weeks ago I suddenly had the urge to make pancakes after being struck by a lovely memory of the good ol' morning breakfasts I had back home. I have always been a breakfast person. I love it when I can take my sweet time to enjoy the first meal of the day. Especially when the sunlight is still shy and the air still lingers with a little midnight chill. Breakfast is a ritual. When I'm not in a rush that is.

Lately I found that this pancake making thing has been quite therapeutic. I don't know why but there's a jolly beat in my heart and I'm practically humming my way through pancake flips! Haha.

OK, so this may not be the prettiest pancake you've ever seen, but it was still yummy!

I know I said I'll be posting lotsa updates once I was done with the projects and all. But obviously there hasn't been much of an update going on. Stuck.

Guilt. Fear. Insecurities. Anxiety. The heart is crippled. So is the mind. It's not a phase. Phases don't take a year do they? I don't know. Turning a new leaf has become routine. You walk the straight path 7 out of 10 times. But it takes only ONE time to screw up. And you find yourself starting back at square one.

Do you keep walking the straight path? Or do you give in to all the non-believers who have always waited for the day you falter? Or perhaps those who have lost their faith in you? It's worse when that lost faith is your own.

Oh, what now? You keep trying but no matter what you are judged in black and white. There is no room for 'because', 'but', or 'you don't understand.' The jury is also sick and tired. But you won't give up. You don't go roll in mud just cause you accidentally spilled coffee on you favorite shirt do you?

Despite being reduced to dust countless of times, you suck it in and accept. Owning up to your flaws. Owning up to the crimes you're guilty of. or even the ones you're not. The world continues spinning. Just don't go to bed angry.

I have a goal. Gotta keep going. Gotta. keep. going.

I'm BACK to blogging! :D Whee I'm so happy.... :))

It's been a grueling few weeks and this week especially has been the climax of all those M.I.A days in the blogsphere. Aah wells, here I am now. Heehee. Honestly since the term started to get heavy (since my last post) I had barely worked on any piece of art! Just some random doodles to get the funk out of my system on days when things just don't seem to make sense anymore. Well I've got a whole lot of stuff planned for the break so hopefully I'll be able to post them up soon... :)

Oh, I had a Wisdom Tooth extraction 3 days ago! @_@ It was on the upper side, and I was so scared to get it pulled out at first. I mean I can't even remember the last time I had a tooth extraction! I was so tensed that I might have annoyed the dentist cause I couldn't keep still.

Well glad that's over with. Still I might have another extraction in line..... la-la don't know when!

Moving on. Hmm. I guess I'll post again soon. Feel kinda rusty. Oh which reminds me I've missed tons of updates from you lovely bloggers out there! Gah. Will be catching up soon. So in the meantime hope you folks are having a great time!

But as much as I wanted the October archives to be filled I'm tied down with assignments :( I can't seem to get myself to post anything other than do a little blog browsing during breaks! ...I was born!

I didn't have a 'grand' celebration but it was nevertheless one of the best days of my life. Sweet surprises are the sweetest!

I've noticed that there also seems to be a lot of Libras [and Scorpios not to forget!] amongst blogger friends celebrating their birthday this time around... so I would like to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you a Happy and Blessed Birthday! I thought I would be able to post more stuff this week but seeing as it's already Thursday... hmm.

I've been stuck for days on a 3D modeling assignment. And it's been quite frustrating! I'm not so good when it comes to modeling in 3D...

ANYWAY, this little strip is something I did during my final year of high school (which is almost 5 years ago!). Back then it was Paint. Hehe.

This here is my very first animation project back in diploma. It was a group work and basically my first time animating for a short. The project was to produce an animation trailer based on the conceptual art from our previous semester. We decided on the story of one of our group mates and the rest is history. My parts were mostly the layout design, background, ink and color, and small parts of the animation.

It's 3.59 am. I just finished with a 3D assignment that's been pretty confusing since I started. Constantly having to mentalize which is the left and right controller has made me lose the meaning of the words. My mind is lagging behind 1.3 seconds. Class is at 9am. Let me think of sweet things and pray I fall asleep in less than an hour.

This past two days apart from indulging in my assignments I've been having little trips down to memory lane. It seems that I do this often. Well not on a regular basis of course but now and then. I visited my old blog and I couldn't believe how much I used to spill in my posts back then. I know almost anyone would agree how important blogs have come to serve us in our daily lives; People who don't normally write in journals have come to do the same things through blogging; And what a surprising and pleasant find it is most of the time to find what goes through their minds and to discover how different people see and interpret things, and then to find like you've discovered a missing piece everytime you stumble on a page that seems to speak what you truly feel inside. Of course where we used to spill our hearts in our journal that is meant for our eyes only, it's interesting how technology has been able to create this wave of communication between people from all around the globe sharing insights through their own eyes with the rest of the world. Neat. huh? Of course there are the good and the bad that came with the blog era. But let's leave that for another day. I'm on a train of thoughts which seem to be jumping every few seconds.

Anyway, I think I'll be posting a few more stuff from my old blog cause I'd like to have it all in one place really. This blog was actually intended just for my art works, but art is a way of life, no? This is a blog after all. Expression is the name of the game. I guess it wouldn't hurt to have a few wordy posts like this...so, lala~

Hello, peeps! I'm finally feeling much better after a week of torment (!). First of all thank you for dropping by and leaving such lovely comments. I'm so delighted! This whole week has been tinkling on my nerves but it has served to remind me of the many things I might have forgotten whilst being caught up in everyday life...

First of all is my health obviously. It's scary how much we take for granted; not knowing that one day there will be no more undoing of the harm (or lack of care) we've done to our bodies! Whether it's binging on our favorite foods, not stretching or taking a break after hours of sitting at the desk or staring into the monitor, or even letting stress get the best of us. Well I'm not here to give out a lengthy lecture for I am guilty of these things myself.

I know that we shouldn't wait for times when we fall sick or when bad things happen for us to realize and be grateful for what we have. But sometimes and more often than not it happens. Even if you are always counting your blessings!

Well anyway, I just wanted to savour this moment and be thankful for what I have (and don't have!) today.

What are you grateful for today? :)

p/s: thank you my beloveds for being there and allowing me to be myself (and loving me anyways!)

I was down with a fever yesterday. A terrible headache and sore throat. Haven't felt so horrible in such a long time! Had a little scare what with the current flu virus pandemic... But with the help of some tablets and a nice warm soup (courtesy of my love:)) I'm feeling much better! I decided to dedicate this day for rest so I pretty much stayed in bed most of the hours. But after a lot of sleep I got bored and started drawing...

Please take care of your health *Note to self*

Drink lots and lots of water!

Take deep breaths...

...and have enough rest! =]

Of Bunnies & Rabbits.

Here's bits and pieces of that old doodle book I wanted to share (please don't mind the bad scanning!). As you can see it's from 2-3 years back! Earlier years of uni when life was filled with drama, but not short of rabbit doodles, tea and ice-cream. I've always loved doodling bunnies. As you can find in the pages of my doodle books there's a particular she-bunny I always draw whom I never gave a name to, only referring to her as the Purple Bunny.

My eyes are strained. With the help of my red-rimmed computer glasses I sit here typing this post. It's been a long day. And with less hours of eye-shutter the night before I still seem to be going! What a Monday. Must be the tea. fused with loads of inspiration. Inspiration thats yet to materialize. lest I fall asleep that is.

These are the times I wish I were more decisive and less of a perfectionist. Lovely weather today! Windy with a little rain to enjoy a book in bed. Anyway here's a Title Seqeunce for my Typography assignment two sems back. I chose the movie The Usual Suspects as it was my film assignment for Film Appreciation class. It's short and simple, kan? I used only the basics in AE. It's been a while since touching that software but I'm hoping to get back to it cause it's a fun learning process! Although my first encounter with it was a bit confusing...thanks to a friend for the invaluable tips and trick! ;)

Time to get back to work.

Hey y'all! Here's a more recent project: 3D modelling! This was last term's work. Mind you, it was my first character modelling! Basically we had to chose an existing model or create one for approval but I decided to play it safe since I was still awkward with 3D... So I chose the character Musa from Winx Club. I've still so much to learn! Kudos*

Hello, peeps. I know I've been away for a while now. Classes have begun and already we need to lock down on a story by the end of this week! I've been lost in my readings most of the time but after this week I think that's going to change a little... Btw, Paulo Coelho is magnifique :) I'm currently on The Pilgrimage. So far I've read three of his books--hoping still to fill my library with his entire collection!

Aaahh, well back to earth. I'm really looking forward to this term! We're to create a short 3D film as a group of four. *All the best to that!* >_<

Anyways, hope you all have a pleasant week! Here's a little treat: Meet Circus Girl (I know, very unimaginative -_-). She was one of my character development sketches for the Incongruity Project. Originally just a line art. One day she became my photoshop painting experiment and voila!

And yet the beauty of memories and dreams lives on.

I wish understanding were enough.

These moments are fragile

I wish i could hold onto them long enough

But tomorrow becomes today

And later becomes now

Yesterday is a distant; a memory.

Overlooking the view from raised grounds

I tap into a moment lost in time

Feelings came rushing in as though they never left

And it felt like just yesterday;

Embraced in good times

And security you wished never let go of you.

One by one, i cut these ties that bind me

Before it is too late

Before it becomes a part of me;

A liberating pain.

It's so easy to say things;

To tell someone what they need to do or should;

To say that this is right and that is wrong;

To condemn; to justify; to find fault;

But what comes next is more than breathing into the air;

Carve ye' thy words out of air?

Or breath ye' forgotten dust into the wind?

New faces fill the days as the moon slowly reveals itself by night

Early dawn when life is still,

The moonlight is a whisper in the breeze;

An eerie longing of a door that leads to a past;

Life has been a misunderstood beau;

My muse has gone on vacation

And i stand alone with what's left of her nurturing.

Nostalgia

I miss you.

I know it's been a while since my last post. I've been very busy attending to errands I initially unlisted off my holiday plans. Oh well. The only thing I'm bummed out about is my toothache :'(

My wisdom tooth is the culprit. Thought it would be alright in a few days (like it usually would be), unfortunately after close to a week I could barely eat anything required chewing... So, finally I went to the dentist yesterday and got me some med. Hohoho.

I've been feeling pretty nostalgic since hanging around home the past week. My room and all my stuff; the family affair; the cool breezes; the sound of water dripping on mossy pavements after it rains; the blue blue sky (!); the simplicity of the material reality laced with the complexity of the way we live our lives; old photographs; old desires that have seeped into the walls of this home, worn and faded; the dead tree of life; and life oh, life!

Nostalgia is the name of this little painting to the left. I was basically just looking for an inspiration for my Incongruity Project (see last post) so I took out my watercolors and started painting. It's actually inspired by a comic book I was reading. The analogous colors of cityscapes are nostalgic pieces of memory in my lil' head: peaceful, dreamy, empty and yet covered by an unknown (and almost fearful force)...

Incongruity

It's been very laidback the past few days. Mostly I've been lazing around; waking up earlier than my usual after-the-sem waking hours and doing my Qi Gong; losing myself in my latest read, Outliers; and playing housekeeper :D

Well here's another past semester work which was for an experimental animation project. I was going for a fashion illustration style using the digital cut-out method. I simply love textures! Aren't they just wonderful? :)

Project Title:

It's basically about a character who tries to fit into a fashion-materialistic-mad world to get noticed but in irony when he stops trying he suddenly stands out from the crowd (although perhaps in a peculiar unconventional turn of event!)

A lot of my inspiration came from two of my favorite fashion illustrators, Pierre-Louis Mascia and Jason Brooks.

Below I've posted some stills from the project; some development sketches and some of the final characters. Oh, this first guy down here is the main charcter: Meet Aven :)

He's rather bland and simple. Friendly but naive more like it. "I still don't get it." --Aven

I've actually posted these two stills at my DA page. This is the final look for some of the extra characters.

Below are a few screenshots from the short. I haven't thought of posting up the final clip though... And frankly the animation wasn't that good. I do plan on re-working on it when I have the time (sadly, which is not anytime soon), and I might even have to redo some scenes from scratch as I lost the original files! Enjoy these still clips anyway :D

OK, so maybe being yourself doesn't require you to strip down bare and naked...at least not literally. But on the rare occasion... :D

Well guess that's all for now! That's that for this project. Those weeks and months of labor were stressful times but at the end of it I can't say that I didn't enjoy it :) If not for the support and help from my beloved peeps (you know who you are :)) I wouldn't have made it through!

Old Doodles

Hey, hey =] I have less than an hour to catch a bus to the airport so here I am hoping to post an update! Aahh, I'm feeling all butterflies! A flight crossing over the South China Sea and I'll be home sweet home :)

Okay, so here are some of my old doodles. You might have seen them on my old blog :) Anyway they were all doodled on different occasions over the last 3 years I think. As can be seen I love drawing pretty and neat lines of feminine figures. I have a thing for fashion illustration. But this is just one of the styles I'm most prominent in drawing. I love experimenting. Though I have this constant battle with my perfectionist side (which btw is a straight line made up of short little crooked lines!).

Aaahh, the clock is ticking and I can almost hear the sound of my heartbeats! Enjoy peeps :)

I never really came up with a title for this drawing. But let's just call her Faerie Ballerina for now, ok? Well as you can see she's the same girl posing as the background for my blog. I haven't actually completed the painting but at least she's not as pale as when I just started!

I'm hoping to paint this one soon!!
